The Senate will cast a vote on Monday to try to break the Democrat filibuster against a bill to stop infanticide.
As LifeNews reported, pro-abortion Senator Patty Murray blocked a vote on a bill from pro-life Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska that would stop infanticide nationwide. And in the House, Democrats have blocked a request by Republicans to vote on a bill that would stop infanticide a total of six times.
Earlier this month. Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse had wanted to vote on a bill to protect babies born alive after failed abortions.
The Senate vote would have come days after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law new legislation that allows abortions up to birth and after Virginia Governor Ralph Northam backed infanticide during a radio interview — saying that he’s perfectly content if doctors and parents discuss letting disabled babies die after birth.
Sasse asked of the Senate for unanimous consent to vote on legislation that would offer them appropriate Medical Care and treatment.
However, speaking on behalf of pro-abortion Senate Democrats, pro-abortion Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat from Washington State, stood up and objected to the vote. She claimed the vote wasn’t necessary and objected to the vote.
On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has scheduled a Senate vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (S. 311). A vote on the bill, which is being sponsored by Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), is expected on February 25.

Senator Ben Sasse, the Nebraska Republican who is the sponsor of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country to discuss the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
“This bill is not actually about abortion. This is about a baby that has survived an abortion, and is born alive, and is on that table, cold, fighting for life, and crying out. And it’s about the practice that’s known as ‘backing away,’ where the abortion provider simply backs away from the table and leaves the baby to die from exposure and the elements,” he said.
“There is nothing here that is controversial or should require any courage. A baby is a baby, and that should have nothing to do with your politics. If you have a heart, you believe that a baby that is born alive has a right and has dignity and has worth.” He continued, “We should be providing the same level of care as we do to any other baby at the same stage of gestation when they’re born.
“On Monday night, you’re actually going to have a chance to see the United States Senate vote–individual senators–put their money where their mouth is and see if they’re actually going to stand with the little guy, because the little guy is that little guy or gal on that table fighting for life,” Sasse concluded.
Leading pro-life groups strongly support the bill.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said:
“This is something that has distinguished America; we might call it American exceptionalism. We understand that each and every human being has dignity and worth.” Perkins continued, “We’ve not always gotten it right in America, but we’ve usually been moving in the right direction. This is stepping backwards, and it will have significant ramifications for us as a country when it comes to the culture, when it comes to the moral standing. This is a defining moment for America.”
“Pro-abortion Democrats who vote against this bill should be forced to explain why they are against giving a born-alive infant life-saving care,” said Jennifer Popik, J.D., legislative director of National Right to Life. “Pro-abortion Democrats should be forced to explain why their allegiance to the abortion industry agenda should allow a practice that is tantamount to infanticide.”
“The extreme pro-abortion agenda has been laid bare for all to see, thanks to the governors of New York and Virginia: they believe it should be legal to kill pain-capable unborn babies, for absolutely any reason, at any time up to and including the moment of their birth, and even in the moments after they are born,” Popik added. “We thank Sen. Sasse for his tireless effort to advance this critical legislation, and we thank Sen. McConnell for his leadership in bringing this issue before the Senate.”
The blocking of a vote on a bill to stop infanticide come even as national polling shows Americans — including people who are “pro-choice” on abortion — oppose abortion up to birth and infanticide. And doctors indicate abortions are never needed to protect a woman’s health and women admit having abortions on healthy babies.
After she blocked the initial vote, EWTN reporter Jason Calvi caught up with Senator Murray and asked her why she blocked the Senate bill to provide medical care for babies who are born alive. She said that is between a woman and her doctor.
Murray continued her false claims that the bill somehow has to do with abortion. All the bill does is ensure that babies who are purposely induced or survive abortions are provided appropriate medical care and treatment. She was unpersuaded by that information.
