High school principal declines free Chick-fil-A for teachers out of ‘respect for LGBTQ community’

(Meredith) — A high school principal in New Orleans is making headlines after he declined a donation of free Chick-fil-A lunches for the school’s teachers. Steven Corbett, the principal of Lush Charter High School, told WDSU he declined the free lunches from Chick-fil-A out of respect and empathy for the LGBTQ community.

Chick-fil-A is regularly criticized for its controversial stance on LGBTQ issues. Corbett sent an email to the school’s staff explaining his decision and said teachers would still be provided a free lunch from a different restaurant. “Anytime an organization is anti-LGBTQ, and has efforts to infringe upon their rights, we thought it was important to support and stand up for their community at this time,” Corbett told WDSU.
