In 2016, a South African doctor was accused of “dissuading a patient from abortion” by telling her the baby she was carrying is a human being. Oh, yes. A doctor is in trouble for telling a pregnant woman she was carrying a human offspring. He is currently on trial. What a world.
Local news reported that the doctor in question, Jacques de Vos, “… is being charged with unprofessional conduct for acting in a manner that was not in accordance with the norms and standards of his profession during an internship in December 2016.”
Because gone are the days that doctors are expected to do no harm.
And writing this off as, “Oh, it’s happening in another country,” isn’t going to cut it. We are all human beings, and the fact that something has happened across the world does not mean it can’t happen here. Here in America, we’re already starting to face serious ramifications of free speech violations and the government starting to encroach on religious freedom.
Which is not to say that religious people have a monopoly on pro-life values. Anyone can (and should) be opposed to killing innocent people.
This man (part of Doctors for Life, by the way) is being tried like a criminal because he treats every human being as a patient. We all have a part to play in abolishing abortion everywhere. But extra strength and good vibes to doctors who face brutal pressure and threats to set their conscience aside and kill babies in the womb.
Fortunately, there’s a ray of light here. Pro-life advocates have his back. Local news reports:
“Meanwhile, almost R100 000 has been raised to cover De Vos’s expenses for the disciplinary inquiry via crowdfunding. This was to cover costs such as travelling, accommodation and other expenses of local and possibly international experts. It would also be used for the direct expenses incurred by Doctors For Life and De Vos’s legal team.”
