Lauren Webster, from Scotland, was informed at her 13-week scan that her baby may be suffering from a “bladder obstruction” and could possibly be suffering from Edwards’ syndrome.
Unsure about what the diagnosis entailed, the young mother said she was disturbed to be offered an abortion “every week,” by her physicians.
Despite the doctors assuring her that Edwards Syndrome would mean her child would be born severely disabled, Webster told The Scotsman that she had “a gut feeling” her little on would survive, and decided to press ahead with the pregnancy.
Still, her doctors persisted.
“She [the doctor] asked me if I wanted to terminate, saying there was a low chance he would survive,” Webster recalled. “Every week she was asking me if I wanted to terminate. She said she had to ask me.”
Eventually, the 21-year-old had to be very firm with her doctor: “I said to her ‘don’t ask me that again because I’m keeping it,’” she recalled.
