Students for Life leader Ellie Wittman, a student at Miami University-Oxford and a Wilberforce Fellow for Students for Life, has a lengthy list of pro-life accomplishments so far. She successfully sued her former university, Miami University-Hamilton, for infringing on the free-speech rights of her group by trying to force them, and no other groups, to put up trigger warnings outside of her Cemetery of the Innocents. Just a few weeks ago, President Trump invited her on stage to share her free-speech story before he signed an executive order protecting speech.
And now, Wittman can add another accomplishment to her list: author of pro-life legislation.
Today, state Senator Peggy Lehner and state Representative Niraj Antani will be announcing the introduction of the Abortion Pill Reversal Information Act. Wittman, as part of her Wilberforce project which she undertook as part of her Wilberforce Fellowship with Students for Life, helped write the legislation.
According to Ohio Right to Life, “The proposed legislation requires doctors prescribing abortion-inducing drugs to also provide written information informing the patient of scientifically proven abortion reversal procedures in the event she changes her mind. ”
“The Mifeprex chemical abortion procedure is a two-day regimen used to terminate early pregnancies by blocking the hormone progesterone needed to sustain pregnancy. A second drug, Misoprostol, stimulates uterine contraction to expel the dead baby. Women who choose chemical abortion and regret it within the first two days of taking the first drug have a chance to save their baby, as long as they have not taken the second drug. The reversal procedure has been proven to be successful in 64-68% of cases. The procedure involves administering progesterone to the mother, which can reverse the impact of the first drug and allow the baby to continue normal development.”
Wittman celebrated the introduction of the legislation saying, “I am so proud of all the pro-life students in Ohio who helped support this legislation and for state Senator Peggy Lehner and state Representative Niraj Antani for fighting for this important piece of legislation. Together, we can protect preborn lives.”
