A Michigan county voted to end its lease with Planned Parenthood on Tuesday, saying it wants the space to expand health services to local residents
In front of a packed meeting room, the Muskegon County commissioners voted 6-2 in favor of the plan, Fox 17 reports.
Planned Parenthood, which does not abort unborn babies at that location but does promote and refer for abortions there, must leave within 90 days, according to the report.
Right to Life of Michigan praised the vote Tuesday on Twitter.
“Planned Parenthood failed to bully Muskegon County,” the pro-life group wrote. “All they want to do is use their own building for their own county health department.”
Muskegon County Public Health Director Kathy Moore said the decision was not political; the county owns the building where Planned Parenthood operates, and it needs the space to expand its own health services. She said they plan to use the space to expand vaccine, STD and HIV services.

According to Moore’s request for board consideration, the county has “accommodated the needs of other outside agencies to the detriment of our own.”

Moore added that public health’s operational capacity and quality of services have diminished over time because it has “limited access to our own resources.”
Moore said Planned Parenthood’s clinical space is the only area within the Muskegon County Public Health building available for the county to expand its clinical services, which include immunizations for children and families and STD/HIV treatment and prevention.
Local Planned Parenthood officials told reporters that they will have to shut down, because 90 days is too little time to find a new space to move.
The abortion chain has been leasing the space for $1,500 a month since March 2010, according to the report.
Dozens of people spoke out for and against the plan Tuesday during the meeting, and the public comment period lasted for several hours, Fox News reports. Many local residents expressed concerns about Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices.
Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion chain in America. It aborts about 330,000 unborn babies a year, according to its own annual reports. Its president, Leana Wen, admitted recently that abortion is their “core mission.”
