Adam Greenway has been unanimously nominated by the search committee of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to replace Paige Patteson as its next president.
Greenway is another “Mohlerite” appointed to run a Southern Baptist entity, the latest in what is almost a complete take-over of the SBC by Albert Mohler and his towering influence. That someone directly associated with Mohler would be appointed to run SWBTS was perfecctly predictable.
Greenway is the Dean of the Billy Graham School of Evangelism at SBTS and for ten years (2005 to 2015) was a trustee and board chairman for the largest retailer of heresy in the world, Lifeway Christian Resources. Thom Rainer, the CEO of Lifeway, was instrumental in the ouster of SWBTS president, Paige Patterson, after vocally speaking out in opposition to him in April of last year. Now, Lifeway’s former board chairman has Patterson’s job.
Mohler is excited about the replacement for Patterson, who was typically seen as adversarial to Mohler, with one of his own close associates. Mohler told the SBC Public Relations Department, “I enthusiastically support the decision of the search committee to nominate Dr. Adam Greenway as the next president of The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.”
Let’s hope and pray Greenway doesn’t push out of Southwestern Seminary the same heresies and heterodoxies Lifeway pushed out onto the world while Greenway served as chairman.
In the meantime, it’s safe to say that “Traditionalists” in the SBC now have nowhere to lay their head. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.
