Tom Steyer, one of two billionaire Democrat presidential candidates, is dropping out of the presidential race after a lackluster showing. Steyer wasn’t a contender in Iowa, New Hampshire or Nevada and his game-plan was to spend very heavily in South Carolina to win that primary and catapult him into the upper echelon.
But that didn’t work out as pro-abortion former Vice President Joe Biden won the South Carolina primary last night but a large margin and Steyer finished a distant third.
That was after placing third in the South Carolina primary despite spending $24 million in television advertising, more than his Democratic rivals combined.
After exiting, Steyer told supporters that he “got into this race for really, really good reasons.”
“I didn’t get into this race and start talking about things to try to get votes. I was in this race to talk about the things that I care the most about,” said Steyer on WYFF-TV.
But Steyer was also an ardent abortion activist.
There is no doubt that Steyer, the single largest donor to the Democratic Party in recent years, would support abortion on demand if elected. Last summer, as the party debated welcoming pro-life Democrats, he announced that he would donate money only to pro-abortion candidates.

“We do not work for a single candidate who is not pro-choice,” Steyer said at the time. “I think people like to have litmus tests. We are explicitly pro-choice. We work a lot with Planned Parenthood, we work a lot with NARAL. We are absolutely committed to it.”
Steyer is worth about $1.61 billion, according to Forbes. He runs the NextGen America PAC, which supports liberal, pro-abortion candidates. He spent $90 million to back pro-abortion candidates in the 2016 election and about $75 million in the 2014 election, Politico reports.
Some of the biggest abortion supporters are rich, privileged old white men like Steyer. George Soros has donated $247 million to liberal and pro-abortion groups in the past few years, and Warren Buffett has given nearly $2 billion to pro-abortion groups in less than two decades.
